Welcome to the University of Birmingham Kayaking club - where ability always comes second place to willingness to have a go. We aim to encourage everyone to get the most out of kayaking, whatever their ability level. For the last few years we have had a strong presence in local and student canoe polo leagues, with our ladies team finishing 3rd in the BUCS Canoe Polo tournament. We also had a number of members finishing in high positions in the BUCS Slalom.
We're not just about the competition though, if you're more into white water paddling, rest assured you will be catered for! We run paddling trips almost every weekend for different ability groups including the BIG Scotland trip and at the start of the summer, the great annual Alps trip. But as we said ability is second to a willingness to have a go so if you've never even been in a boat before then come along to one of our pool sessions and we'll teach you everything you need to know.
We hold three pool sessions every week the club meets at the Munrow swimming pool for teaching and play-boating, and canoe polo practice. This is the perfect opportunity for beginners to learn to sit up without getting wet, more experienced paddlers to hone their skills, the polo team to push each other in and have a chat whilst sitting on the side of the pool.
