Meet the Committee 09-10

Adam - Chieftan

Number of years paddling?: 6 years

Best Paddling Moment So Far?: Either, paddling the upper Dart in huge flood water in a playboat three years ago; it was massive! I got pinned on a cliff and had 2 climb out and seal launch back in... or paddling the Amot Gorge in Norway in the afternoon sun with my mates to get back to our campsite to get drunk.

What's been your best or funniest swim?: I've never swum so the funniest swim i've witnessed was my mate Bear on the Amot Gorge because it hurt him! haha

Why should people join the club?: People should join for the high standard of river and polo paddling. We are exceptional for a University club and have great socials (and also Shane's huge penis deserves a mention)

Favourite drinking game?: 5s with the loser necking a pint!

Shane - Treasurer

Number of years paddling?: 12 months this September

Best Paddling Moment So Far?: Completing a river in the lake district without swimming, no idea which one it was.

What's been your best or funniest swim?: When I swam five times in the space of a few hours down the lower Tryweryn.

Why should people join the club?: "'Cause we are cool"

Favourite drinking game?: Any

Si - Secretary

Number of years paddling?: Since I started at uni.

Best Paddling Moment So Far?: Probably the first time I ever kayaked in freshers when I must have spent more time falling out of and getting back into my boat than playing polo, to the point where I almost hand rolled myself back up... but I didn't.

What's been your best or funniest swim?: I've only ever had one swim which was when I "tried" to loop at Hurley and the water pushed my rubbish deck into the cockpit and I was left holding onto my boat by my feet, asking Adam, Minnie and Bobbie for a little bit of help :P

Why should people join the club?: For the free food at the BBQ, the good looking people of the club, the AMAZING rivers, pushing people over playing polo, Shane and the good times.

Favourite drinking game?: One that involves me and alcohol and not getting refused entry to wherever I'm going afterwards because I'm "too drunk"

Number of years paddling?: A fair few

Best Paddling Moment So Far?: Surfing La Malate wave. My first big wave surfing experience. Such a buzz!

What's been your best or funniest swim?: I'm yet to swim on a river. Swam at HPP due to a shoulder dislocation but that wasn't funsies!

Why should people join the club?: People should join the club because its a giggle, and a fantastic way to get out of Birrrrrrrrrmingham into the country (or another city as the case may be for polo).

Favourite drinking game?: 'I have never'. Especially as one of the couples in the club admitted to having a threesome at last years alps trip! Wahey!

Biggest Sexual Fantasy?: ...would have to be seeing Shane's huge penis that Adam is always harping on about!

Phil - G.I.M.P

Number of years paddling?: 12 months in Sept '09

Best Paddling Moment So Far?: When Minnie and I both won Big Dog kayaks at the International Student Alpine Boater-X 2009!!!

What's been your best or funniest swim?: Best: Swimming down Right Angle Falls on the Etive in Scotland! Funniest: Failing to ferryglide above a weir of death in a Whiplash on my first river in Wales, swimming to one bank, where I was ferryglided by Dory back to the other side, walked down 200metres, to get ferryglided below the weir by Rhod to find my boat, then realising my paddles had kept going for another couple of hundred metres; Nightmare!

Why should people join the club?: People should join for the great paddling, mind-numbingly good socials, awesome value and the chance to meet some wicked people who will definitely become friends for life! By which I mean they'll probably accept you on Facebook! :P

Favourite drinking game?: Trying to steal people's drinks without them noticing with a Giant Drinking Straw!!

Special – Polo Rep

Special.jpg

Number of years paddling?: Since I was about twelve

Best Paddling Moment So Far?: Competitive: Being captain for my boys at busa '09 and not being the worst team at the amsterdam open '09. Non competitive: the first time i properly paddled on Shepperton when I was 8.

What's been your best or funniest swim?: On the graveyard at Tryweryn on a prem/div1 slalom. I did a hanging draw for about a second on my downstream side, the paddle got stuck on a rock and i fell in, kind of tripping over it. Then it was so shallow that I just was getting pulled downstream rubbing my face on the bottom and I couldn't move my arms at all.

Why should people join the club?: People should join if they want to or are forced to by someone else.

Favourite drinking game?: My favourite drinking game is when I drink special brew alone in bed until i pass out.

Laura

Number of years paddling?: Since fresher's fest last year!

Best Paddling Moment So Far?: Definitely the Lakes trip which was my first time paddling rivers, the whole weekend was immense!

What's been your best or funniest swim?: Hmm difficult to choose just one, I quite like swimming.

Why should people join the club?: It's a good way to meet loads of fantastic people, the amazing feeling you get when you have just run a rapid that you thought you couldn't do, and last but not least, the banter!

Favourite drinking game?: Ring of fire, or Edward Ciderhands, with a couple of litres of good old Frosty Jacks.

Rob

Number of years paddling?: Three years since i joined the club as a fresher in my first year!

Best Paddling Moment So Far?: While suffering with a nasty hangover, managing to complete my first ever grade 4 rapids... while in Germany!

What's been your best or funniest swim?: Tend to spent more time swimming than not. But on the sed rapids above i threw up at the end of the rapids and then rolled into my stomach contents :P..... or perhaps the time I seal launched into a vertical pin and when i scampered out of my kayak it floated off down the river, fun.

Why should people join the club?: The kayak club is a incredibly social club with fan-bloody-tastic socials. Everybody is a good laugh and really easy to get along with! Plus there are many brilliant trips available for all who want to go all year round.

Favourite drinking game?: There are so many and yet to find one I disapprove of but Edward Ciderhands, Ring of Fire, Dead Man's Wake and Firehole are particularly favorable : )
