Hello, and welcome to the Birmingham University Kayak Club website.
We're a very friendly bunch of people, catering for all sorts, ranging from complete beginners to experts, from polo addicts to mad keen river runners, and more than one or two who prefer to spend time in the pub than get cold and wet outside.

Paddling Learners Log

The idea of this is to provide a list of strokes so that people can, if they chose, take an active roll in their own coaching, ticking off skills as they become more involved in the club.

These skills are placed in a loose logical order, but this order should not be seen as rigid.

When learning a new stroke ALWAYS practice it on both sides of the kayak. Always be prepared to learn from your coach and be prepared to re-visit the earlier skills as you improve.

Pool skills

  • Adjust the pool boats so that the footrests fit
  • Remove spray deck and swim from the kayak
  • Remove neoprene spray-deck and swim from the kayak
  • Forward paddling · Backwards paddling
